Ms. Shanan Wheeler
Greetings Frost Families,
My name is Shanan Wheeler and I am so excited to welcome you to our Frost Family. It has been my pleasure to serve the Frost Community as both assistant principal and principal over the past ten years. As I begin year eleven, I look forward to working with our newest group of Falcons and welcoming back our 8th grade leaders.
I began my career with Livonia Public Schools when I student taught at Frost in September of 2001. Since then, I have taught Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics, Environmental Science, and Psychology at Churchill and Franklin High Schools. I began my administrative career at Frost as an assistant principal in 2015, briefly served as the principal of Johnson Upper Elementary school in 2019 and returned to Frost to serve as principal in January of 2021.
Professionally, I have an undergraduate degree from Madonna University in Dietetics, a master’s degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in Secondary Science Education, an Educational Specialist degree in Leadership from Oakland University, and I am currently completing a Ph.D. program in Educational Leadership at Eastern Michigan University.
Personally, I am the proud parent of two FHS graduates – my daughter in the class of 2013 and my son in the class of 2015 (both are married and off the payroll). And the proud grandparent of a beautiful grandson. I enjoy exercising, living a healthy lifestyle, and working with early adolescent learners.
I’ve had many friends and parents ask me over the years, “why middle school?” For me it’s simple, middle school kids are just as energetic and crazy as I am. They are still “kids,” but are trying to navigate the waters of adolescents. They are impulsive, sensitive, and working very hard to find where they fit in. They grow so much in two short years, and it is pretty awesome to have a front row seat to see the young adults they mature into. There is never a dull moment at Frost, and they definitely keep me on my toes. I cannot imagine leading any other group of kids at any other building. Frost is my heart and my home, and I am so grateful that I was chosen to lead here.
It takes a village,
Shanan Wheeler, Ed.S.
